Evera, Dancho Pandulchev

TEXT

Dance in the dawn,
Dance on the green and sparkling
Dressed with dew drops lawn;
After a night of rest
again in light be dressed.

Refrain:
Breathe the morning air;
Let the breezes waft away your care;
Rhythmic’ly dance with brooks and flowers fragrant, fair;
Gracefully move, be light and free and gay (glad)
On this inspiring bright spring day.
(Repeat from “Let”)

Dance in the dawn,
Welcome the rising sun
with happiness and song;
Join in the harmony
of nature’s dancing throng.

Refrain: the same

IDEA

This is an exercise about the perfect person, who maintains balance between mind (thoughts, wisdom), heart (feelings, love), and actions (volition, truth). S/he lives in relations with self, the others, and nature. In the body language, in space, we perform this idea in the three possible directions of movement. Love and the relation to others is movement in the direction facing the centre; truth and the relation to self is movement in the direction forward in the circle; wisdom and the relation to nature is movement in direction with one's back to the centre of the circle. The music also creates balance by providing equal duration of time for the movements in each of these three directions (1 measure). Balance is characteristic of movements as well, since there are turning movements and movements on tiptoes and they have an effect on the vestibular apparatus and equilibrium.

“The turning to the left represents the receiving of love; the turning to the right – the receiving of wisdom. The forward movement that follows every movement to the left and right – this is movement towards truth. Thus the application of love and wisdom in our lives leads us up towards truth, i.e. to the sublime reality on which the whole of creation is based. [1, p.78] Evera means “born of the sun” [4, p.58]

QUESTIONS

1. Text: Which words in the text associate with “light”? What does “nature’s dancing throng” consist of? Give a synonym to “waft away”. Write in your own beautiful words a sentence/essay/poem about the perfect person.

2. Drawing:Draw an illustration to the exercise. Draw a perfect person. Draw three pictures entitled Truth, Love and Wisdom (or Acting, Feeling and Thinking): in images, colors or shapes.

3. Questions: Can someone really be perfect? If Love, Wisdom and Truth are three fairies what would you ask of them? If your thought, feelings and actions were thе three sides of a triangle, how would it look like; could you say that the sides are equal? Why love, wisdom and truth are related to the pink, yellow and blue colors?

4. Experience: Tell us of situation and experiences when you have done something with effect on you, on others and nature at the same time. Or situations when you have thought, felt and acted simultaneously in perfect harmony with yourself.

5. Imagination: Imagine, while you play the exercise, that inside the circle is pink, forward  is blue and outside the circle is yellow.

6. Affirmation: Write your own positive affirmation for Evera. For example: I can think, feel and act well.

7. Quotes: Mohandas Gandhi “Truth stands, even if there be no public support. It is self-sustained.” Immanuel Kant“Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life.” Antoine de Saint Exupery “Love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction.” Find your favourite quotes.

MOVEMENT

Arms:

Legs:

Duration:

SP:

The partners face the centre of the circle, one behind the other.

The right arm is in front of the chest, folded in the elbow and close to the body, its forearm parallel to the left arm. The left arm is stretched to the left side horizontally. Palms are down, fingers together, wrists stretched.

The right foot is on toes to the right side. The weight of the body is on the left foot. The toes of both feet point towards the centre of the circle.

1:

Turning to the right and forwards in respect to the movement in the circle.

Both arms outline descending semicircles down and to the right side while simultaneously the body turns to the right. The arms move parallel, stretched, with palms down, and reach horizontal position forwards.

The toes of the right foot rotate to the right (forwards), and the weight of the body gradually transfers to it. In the process of weight transfer the heel of the left foot takes off and the foot rotates on toes to the right (forward). Toes never lift from the ground.

1 measure

2:

Step forwards.

Both arms rise slowly forwards and upwards at 45 degrees, parallel and stretched in elbows, wrists, and palms.

The left foot moves to the front and steps, the weight of the body transfers to it. The right foot remains on toes, to the back. The toes of both feet point forwards.

1 measure

3:

Turning to the right, with one’s back to the centre of the circle.

Both arms outline long descending semicircles to the right side, while simultaneously the body turns to the right. The right arm reaches a position horizontal to the right side, while the left is folded in front of the chest, forearm parallel to the right arm. Arms move parallel one to another with palms down, stretched.

as is 1, to the right (to the outside with one’s back to the centre).

1 measure

Movements 1,2,3 repeat symmetrically (to the left) with movements 4,5,6.

All six make up a cycle which repeats 11 times + 2 movements (or 22 times + 4 upon repetition).

Final position: End of movement 2 (if one performance) or end of 4 (if repeated).
